Des Plaines clerk receives citizenship award

The Des Plaines Elks Club recently lauded City Clerk Gloria Ludwig with the Distinguished Citizenship Award for her support of charitable and fraternal organizations in the city.

The award was presented at the Elks Lodge No. 1526’s Annual Appreciation Dinner on Feb. 15. Ludwig began volunteering in 1972 with Operation Open Heart (Open Your Hearts for Our Servicemen) and has contributed countless hours to Big Sisters, Adopt a Grandparent Program, Hanover Park-Ontarioville Historical Society, WBBM Good Neighbor Radiothon, River Oaks and Park Place Condominium Associations, the Des Plaines Historical Society, the Frisbie Community Senior Center, Des Plaines Healthy Community Partnership, Maine West High School Community Relations Committee, the Des Plaines Ministerial Association, the United Way Women’s Leadership Council, Community Paint-A-Thon, and the Junior Achievement Day Program.

She serves as an instructor with the American Cancer Society’s “Look Better, Feel Better” Program for cancer patients and participates in the annual Relay For Life. Ludwig is a member of the Des Plaines Ladies of the Elks and a friend of the VFW and American Legion.
