Malpractice law harms patients

In the waning days of the lame-duck session of the General Assembly, Gov. Pat Quinn signed a law allowing attorneys to collect higher fees from clients in medical malpractice cases. Doctors criticized the law, arguing patients could use these additional funds for their care or therapy. Lawyers argued the law would standardize fees and protect clients from being overcharged.

Both sides have added insult to the patients/clients they claim to be concerned about. They are more interested in themselves than those who need care or legal representation. Doctors want tort reform and caps on malpractice suits. Lawyers have no difficulty taking inordinate fees for their services. Who is concerned for the person caught between these dueling professions? No one, not surprisingly. Shame on you Gov. Quinn, doctors, lawyers and your lobbies for again harming patients further.
