I believe that all board members are there to help support and promote the library in creating partnerships, planning/participating in events and assisting the library in emerging with the times.Key Issue 2 Planning for the future of our library is also a key issue with me. It's significant to not only understand how the library currently works, but be able to work with a group of people to consistently formulate plans in order to improve the library.Key Issue 3 The Effectiveness of the library is also key. The community instills trust and hope in the library board. Some of the reasons the board is put in place is to evaluate, set policies, monitor financials, work closely with Amy, the director and make sure the community is happy.Questions Answers Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am running for a position with the Roselle Public Library District's Board of Trustees because I believe that the Library is a cornerstone of our Village. It is placed here to help the community grow and flourish with its resources. Advocacy, Planning and Effectiveness are all of importance in order to assist with fueling the growth and the future of our communityIf you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what special contributions you could make.Yes, I am an incumbent. In the time I?ve been in this position, I have helped with many policies, participated in various library events, helped the public gain more awareness of the library and its programs, worked on attaining library sponsorship, took on the duties for the Audit committee as well as helped reinstate its Ad Hoc Committee to help strengthen the library.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes, I do have a library card. I have lived in Roselle for almost 7 years, received a card in 2008, this will be my 5th year with a Roselle Library Card. I use the card every 1-2 weeks.Space is usually an issue at libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.Space is not currently a major issue in our library. Our staff is excellent in updating the materials and pulling outdated information. If the funds were available, I would love to be able to update parts, if not the entire library which in turn would help us be able to expand our collections. In terms of technology, I feel that the library is doing great with keeping with the times. Technology has come a long way, through research and e-books which the library makes readily available through their online system. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Economics Technology have great impacts on all libraries, including ours. Though the times have changed, the library has continued to grow with the times, proving it indispensable. You?re able to research and gain information faster and even in the comfort of your own home, by having a library card. You?re also able to readily check out e-books, reserve meeting space, find out about all the events and programs that are going on and get involved. The library is a relevant source of information and plays a vital role in the community.
