I am involved with the community in many organizations. My education in political science helps me better understand many issues. I am currently the Chair of the Recycling Committee and I am a member of the Public works Negoiations Committee. I am dedicated to continuing our tradition of Elk Grove being the Exceptional CommunityGiven the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain. We have a 1% sales tax which is comparable to surrounding communities. Our economic situation is very good right now in Elk Grove. I believe our tax rate is fair and reasonable.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Flooding is the biggest issue for parts of our community. We are implementing a plan to redo the infrastructure of the business park to alleviate the flooding problem. We are renovating the dam on the Salt Creek that should prevent flooding in many areas of the Village. We have also addressed the flooding problem in some local areas by using engineering studies and implementing them.In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?We have already trimmed our budget over the last several years particularly in reducing the number of employees without sacrificing public safety or any important service for the community. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I am currently working with a group of citizens to promote biking in Elk Grove. We hope to see an increase in the numbers of younger and older people using bikes for recreation and for school and work. We are offering bike safety classes both in the schools and the community. We have participated in cleanup work in Busse Woods to make it safer for biking. We are working with the Village to increase and improve the bike routes in Elk Grove. We feel this will benefit the health of our citizens and save on energy use.
