I am very involved with the Gilberts Community Days. The committee has already started meeting and planning for our 2013 Community DaysElected offices held: Currently a Trustee in the Village of GilbertsHave you ever been arrested for or convicted of a crime? If yes, please explain: NoCandidate's Key Issues Key Issue 1 Economic Development - This has been difficult in the current economic times. The village is currently working on an industrial/commercial development on the southwest corner of Tyrrell Road. We are very excited about this as it will bring businesses and jobs to Gilberts. With this happening in 2013, we hope that it opens the door for others to see the opportunities that Gilberts has.Key Issue 2 Community Involvement - Staying involved as much as I can. Some run for the office of Trustee and think that the only responsibility is to go to meetings, listen to the issues and vote. I feel it is up to a person who gets elected to be out there in the community as much as they can with the people who voted for them. I work to attend the different events we have to see the people and say hello.Key Issue 3 N/AQuestions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I worked in the property management field for many years. The budgets I prepared were similiar to the village budget. Managing staff and expenditures also listening to the concerns of the residents were on going responsibilities. Solving problems and settling issues. I over saw a 3 million dollar renovation project. This past experience helped me with issues that are presented to the board.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Who among us likes taxes. We all would like to pay less taxes. I don't feel our sales tax, living in this area of Illinois, is overly burdensome.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed. It is more police out on the street. As much as I would like to say yes to this, we just cannot put it into our budget. Some of board wants to go down to one officer at night and I strongly oppose this. If economy changes and our revenues change, I would listen to a plan that gives the village the ability to increase the force. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?I know some feel the police budget could be trimmed. I will not do that. I look at the budget and it is a trimmed down budget with no frills. Being familiar with the budget process, I feel the staff does a thoughful job of not putting frivolous items in the budget. Something that has not been done in the past is planning for capital replacement items and we are working on this for the future. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?All ideas that I think would be of value to the village, I would share with the board and staff first.
