Also, I've lived in the Village for 15 years and have 4 years of experience as a Village Trustee.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Candidate did not respond.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed.Hainesville is a very safe community. One concern has been the occasional theft of property. Most of these thefts have been from unlocked vehicles and open garages. The Village and the Grayslake/Hainesville Police Department have sent reminders to our residents to make certain that they lock their parked vehicles and close their garage doors. The police have also stopped at houses during their night patrols to knock on doors and notify residents that their garage door is open. Contracting our police services with Grayslake has proven not only fiscally sound but it has also provided us with high quality police services and protection which has enhanced the safety of our Village. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?We are always trimming our budget. I believe that I've developed a reputation among my fellow trustees of being very frugal. We are currently developing the 2013-14 budget and have already decided to spend down a portion of our savings rather than to increase our residents' taxes. In fact our levy request was for the exact same dollar amount as last year's levy. Our budget priorities have been and will continue to be the infrastructure of the Village. We are working diligently on keeping our roads, water system, and sewer system in top notch operational condition. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?Having the state reduce its portion of the revenue it receives from sales tax and conversely, increase ours. Sometimes you just have to dream big.
