How big a role do you think the board of education should play in setting the curriculum for students and what ideas do you have for changes to the current curriculum? With the Illinois adoption of Common Core Standards, it will give our schools clear expectations of what students are expected to learn and a way to compare how well our students are doing against other students nationally. As a school board member, I would help support our educators and students by working collaboratively to define goals and effectively assess progress. Our district administrators and educators have the challenging job of implementing the Common Core Standards and developing a curriculum that will allow our students to meet and exceed State expectations. As a board member, I would expect to keep fully informed in order to provide the necessary resources and monitor progress. How satisfied are you that your district is preparing students for the next stage in their lives, whether it be from elementary into high school or high school into college or full-time employment? What changes, if any, do you think need to be made?I believe Lisle 202 school district is doing a wonderful job with our children. Continual improvement is always a goal. I would like to be part of the school board so I can help continue to put our children first in our school district. I was raised to have respect for the purpose of school and education. Having a good education helped me to get into my first choice college, University of Illinois and to attain my CPA. I think it is important for our children to be fully equipped to reach their goals whether it is to move on to college or to move into a technical field. What budget issues will your district have to confront and what measures do you support to address them? If you believe cuts are necessary, what programs and expenses should be reduced or eliminated? On the income side, do you support any tax increases? As of right now, I do not have sufficient expertise to speak on budget and tax increase concerns. With every school board meeting I am attending and will continue to attend, I will increase my knowledge base on the financial challenges that face Lisle CUSD 202. I realize the District faces increased operational expenses, legislative requirements and unfunded mandates, with limited resources. If elected a school board member, I will use my accounting background to obtain a better understanding of the District's financial standing and budget concerns, in order to ensure that the District maintains fiscal stability in a conservative manner. As contract talks come up with various school employee groups, do you believe the district should ask for concessions from its employees, expect employee costs to stay about the same as they are now or provide increases in pay or benefits?Negotiating is a give and take. In order to maintain and attract quality teachers we need to be fair in their pay, to the extent our district can remain fiscally responsible. If your district had a superintendent or other administrator nearing retirement, would you support a substantial increase in his or her pay to help boost pension benefits? Why or why not?No, I would not support substantial increases in pay for an administrator who is nearing retirement. Money allocated to the District for education should be put toward exceeding academic standards and enriching students? school experience.
