(Park District, Library, Alexian Brothers Medical Center)Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?I have lived in Elk Grove since 1956. I have attended the local schools, married and raised two children in this community. I have always been involved as a volunteer in the schools, with sports, at the Senior Center and served on two Village commissions. I believe my involvement and my knowlege of the Village and what it has to offer helps me to meet the needs of the residents and understand their concerns.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.I believe that the local sales tax is just what it should be. Elk Grove Village is lucky to have the largest industrial park in the country within it's boundries. That industrial park and the taxes they pay sustains the needs of our community.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed. The biggest concern, in my opinion, is the flooding issue in our residential and industrial park. The Village will be starting on a huge initiative to address the aging infrastructure and provide relief from the flooding. We are also working on flood relief through the Busse Woods project. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?I am very proud to say that the Village Board and our staff have aggressively worked to keep us at budget or below. We have done this through examining every department within the Village. We have re-organized some departments and trimmed staff through retirements. No employee has ever been laid off. There has been no reduction in service provided either. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?I don't know if I would say it was one good idea, but I am very focused on the needs of our senior population. We are an aging community. As families grow and our population ages we need to be able to provide services and housing opportunities to keep seniors in our community. People want to stay in EGV, which is great. We need to help make that happen.
