Arlington Hts. prayer breakfast set for Feb. 7

The Mayor's 26th annual Community Prayer Breakfast will be held Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013. This year's messages will focus on faith in God and looking to the future. This will be the last time that Arlene J. Mulder officiates and welcomes attendees as Mayor of Arlington Heights. She will, undoubtedly, reflect on her faith and years as mayor of the Village. Also, delivering the special message for the event will be Rev. David G. Abrahamson of Lutheran Life Communities.

This year's Prayer Breakfast will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Chicago – Arlington Heights, 75 W. Algonquin Road, Arlington Heights, beginning at 7:15 a.m. with the one-hour program starting at 8:00 a.m.

Arlene J. Mulder has been major of Arlington Heights since 1993. She was elected to the Village Board in 1991. Prior to her being an elected public servant, she was a secondary educator. Last year, she announced that she would not run for re-election as Mayor or a Trustee of the Village Board. She is married and the mother of three and grandmother of five. Her other activities include: Arlington Heights Women's Club, AAUW, BPW, Allied Arts, NWCH Auxiliary, Historical Society, United Way and Boy Scouts Council.

Rev. David G. Abrahamson is Chairman of the Board of Lutheran Life Communities, parent company of the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, which was established in 1892, and also manages five other facilities. Lutheran Life Communities reaches out to the community-at-large with comprehensive services and programs that empower vibrant, grace-filled living across all generations, including rehabilitation services, home health, adult day care, relocation and moving services, hospice, pastoral services, volunteer programs, and even child care. Building on its rich heritage in Arlington Heights, the Lutheran Home is now in the process of a major expansion. Mr. Abrahamson's remarks with reflect on his organization's focus on faith, rich heritage, and the future.

Jon Ridler, Executive Director of the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce, will act as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Others speaking at the Prayer Breakfast include: Jim Platt, Bert Rosenberg and Sr. Carrie Miller, SLW.

This marks the 26th year in the current series of community prayer breakfasts of area residents and business people who come together with the aim of strengthening the spiritual character of the community and its leaders. This Mayor's Community Prayer Breakfast is sponsored by a voluntary group of community residents who have joined to organize the event for all members of the community in an expression of their faith in God and fellowship with one another. The nondenominational event is patterned after the yearly President's Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., which was inaugurated in 1952, and the Illinois Governor's Prayer Breakfast.

Members of the Steering Committee for this year's Prayer Breakfast include: Carol Lynn Seifert, Fred Broviak, Ken Nielsen, Ron Crawford, Arlene J. Mulder, Bill Kmiecik, Cindee Manaves, Jim Bertucci, Gilda Karu, Marianne Dilsner and Jeanie Gain.
