E. Dundee garage fire put out quickly

Firefighting crews quickly extinguished a garage fire in East Dundee Friday morning, authorities said.

Officials from the East Dundee Fire Protection District said crews responded at 6:55 a.m. to the 100 block of South Van Buren Street, and upon arrival found light smoke coming from a single-story detached garage/woodworking shop. The fire, which was in the woodworking area, caused less than $6,000 worth of damage to the building and its contents, authorities said.

A firefighter who fell on ice at the scene sustained minor injuries, and he was later treated and released from Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
