Elk Grove Township home destroyed by fire

A trailer home in unincorporated Elk Grove Township was destroyed in an early morning fire Tuesday, officials said.

Firefighters from the Elk Grove Township Fire Department received a call at 5:54 a.m. of a fire at 132 Grant Road in the Oasis Mobile Home Park, said Captain Thomas Zaremba.

Upon arrival four minutes later, firefighters found the rear of the home on fire, he said. The home’s one occupant had exited the structure safely before firefighters arrived.

About 33 firefighters and staff members from Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Prospect Heights and Bensenville fire departments helped extinguish the fire in a quick manner, Zaremba said. They kept the fire contained to the one trailer home, and no injuries were reported, he added.

The Red Cross is helping the owner of the mobile home, as it was “a total loss,” Zaremba said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
