Emanuel endorses Illinois gun-safety legislation
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says Illinois needs common-sense gun laws to protect children, and he’s endorsing a series of measures that have been introduced by lawmakers in Springfield.
In a statement Tuesday, Emanuel says he supports the measures introduced by state Sen. Antonio Munoz and state Rep. Edward Acevedo. Their proposals would restrict the sales of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The measures also would require gun owners to tell Illinois State Police when a gun is lost or stolen.
Emanuel says the start of a new General Assembly is an opportunity for Illinois lawmakers to recognize the damage guns do and act to protect Illinoisans.
