Lake County Clerk urges college students to apply for ballots

Lake County Clerk Willard Helander urges college students residing in the city of North Chicago, the city of Waukegan and Waukegan Township who are temporarily away at school to visit LakeVoterPower.info and download an application for ballot for the Feb. 26 Consolidated Primary Election.

An application for ballot may also be requested by contacting the Clerk’s Elections Department at VotingByMail@lakecountyil.gov or by calling (847) 377-2406.

Illinois law requires individuals voting by mail to complete an application for ballot for each election, and a ballot will be mailed to the voter only after the clerk receives the signed application.

Students not already registered to vote may do so at the County Clerk’s office, 18 N. County St., Room 101, Waukegan. The clerk’s office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 7:30 p.m. on most Fridays.

On Fridays before a holiday, the clerk’s office closes at 5 p.m. Many convenient locations throughout Lake County also offer registration, including libraries, schools and township and municipal offices. For more information about voter registration, visit LakeCountyClerk.info or contact the Clerk’s Voter Registration Department, at (847) 377-2410.

Only voters registered in the city of North Chicago, the city of Waukegan and Waukegan Township are eligible to vote in February’s election. There is only a Democratic primary as there are no contested Republican candidates or certified nonpartisan public questions
