Batavia mayor’s talk to focus on Lincoln’s connection to city

Batavia’s popular noontime book program, Books Between Bites, welcomes the annual visit of Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke on Thursday, Jan. 17.

He will discuss newly found evidence of a connection between Batavia’s Judge Lockwood and Abraham Lincoln.

The monthly series is held at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Avenue, from noon to 1 p.m.

Schielke has long been a seeker and keeper of historic facts about Batavia, and for the past several years he has presented the results at Books Between Bites. This year, the focus is on what has been recently discovered about a Lincoln connection to Batavia. With all the interest in the recent film “Lincoln,” this is a timely topic.

The public is invited to attend these free programs. Reservations are not required. They are held in the large community room located on the main level of the Batavia Public Library. Parking is available in the lot just south and adjacent to the library.

Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and eat as they enjoy the program and discussion. Lunch items, beverages and baked goods can be purchased at 10 South Coffee House, located just inside the library and adjacent to the meeting room.
