'Book of Mormon' extended

There will be more baptisms and blasphemy to go around now that the second national tour of "The Book of Mormon" has extended its Chicago run at the Bank of America Theatre from Tuesday, June 4, through Sunday, Sept. 8. The new block of tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, though American Express card members have early access to sales until Sunday, Jan. 6.

The multi-award-winning musical comedy by the creators of "South Park" (Matt Stone and Trey Parker) and a co-creator of "Avenue Q" (Robert Lopez) about two young missionaries in Uganda drew rave reviews from critics when it opened last month. Much of the Chicago run is already sold out, and "The Book of Mormon" also broke the house records in three cities for the week ending Sunday, Dec. 30. The New York production grossed $2,158,595, the first national tour's final week in San Francisco grossed $1,607,677 and the show grossed $1,645,201 in Chicago.
