Girl dies from injuries in suspected arson

One of two children injured in a suspected Chicago arson has died.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said 4-year-old Nariyah Beller died Monday at Stroger Hospital from burns suffered in the Saturday fire in Chicago’s Lawndale neighborhood. She suffered burns over her entire body.

Authorities say the girl’s 9-year-old brother, Naciere, suffered burns over 35 percent of his body. He is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.

The children’s mother, 33-year-old Taniya Johnson, died in the fire, which authorities say was set by the children’s father, Nathaniel Beller, who died Sunday from burns suffered in the fire.

The 29-year-old Beller is suspected of pouring flammable liquid on several people and igniting the fire. An empty gas can was found behind the brick two-flat.
