St. Viator Music Ambassadors celebrate with Wheeling seniors

Members of Saint Viator High School’s Tri-M Music Honor Society took their talents on the road recently, when they visited with residents of Addolorata Villa retirement community in Wheeling.

They included seniors from St. Viator’s symphonic choir, Chamber Singers, jazz and symphonic bands, who combined to perform holiday selections for residents and their families during their Christmas party.

“This was our first group service project,” said Kristina Sandrock, choral director. “But we plan to get out more into the community.”

Locally, Tri-M was founded in 1936, by Alexander Harley, former band director at Maine East High School, in Park Ridge, as the Modern Music Masters. Now administered by the National Association for Music Education and known as the Tri-M society, its goals remain the same: to recognize students for their musical and academic achievements.

“These students have been carefully selected on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and service,” said Eileen Manno, principal, when she inducted the 28 seniors last month. “They are charter members of our new chapter, and with that comes a responsibility to share it with their school and community.”

Tri-M members included Timothy Ackerlund of Schaumburg; Regina Aiuppa of Itasca; Alyssa Abay of Streamwood; Trisha Aguilar, Brianna Escarda, Elizabeth Meehan and Ysabelle Valera, all of Des Plaines; Carolynn Brusseau, Katie Cascino, Sara Fecko, Madeline Kelly, Caitlin Neubauer and Christina Vivit, all of Arlington Heights; Becky Butz of Streamwood, Ryan Gurreri and Patrick McCann of Barrington, Anna O’Connell and Danny Rooney of Palatine; Jordan Tully of Hanover Park; and David Vitale of Elk Grove Village.
