David Thoren received the Dedicated to Excellence Award at the December 18 Des Plaines Park Board Meeting, from Paul Cathey, Superintendent of Parks and Planning. Thoren is a member of the Landscape Maintenance Crew and is based at Prairie Lakes Community Center during the spring, summer, and fall. He was recognized for his specialized landscape equipment expertise, his leadership skills with the part time staff, his customer service record, and his knowledge of landscape and hardscape construction. Thoren's responsibilities include mowing, trimming and cutting down trees, maintaining the Mountain View Adventure Golf Course, taking care of the soccer fields, cleaning restrooms, and providing support to the Mountain View staff. Thoren also has a pesticide operator's license and maintains the retention ponds and turf.

The Dedicated to Excellence Award is presented three times a year to employees who have made a positive contribution to the Park District. Potential recipients are nominated by Park District staff members, and evaluated by the Employee Relations Committee and Administrators for creativity, responsibility, community relations, and customer service.

“Thoren is an outstanding example of the exemplary Parks staff,” said Cathey. “He takes pride in working hard, all day, until the job is finished. He brings vast experience and knowledge to his work, and there is no challenge too great for him tackle.”
