Singing for a Cause Motivates Acappella Underground

For over five years, Acappella Underground, a Glen Ellyn high school singing organization has bee sharing their musical talentd with the Village during special events, the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, the People Resource Center, and entertaining in private homes, restaurants over the holidays and local hospitals. Each year the group has auditions because some of the members complete high school and travel on to their college experience Members over the years have not just been Glenbard West High School students. This year’s membership includes four singers from Wheaton Warrenville High School and one singer from Wheaton North. The 2012-2013 singers are Caitlin Paul, Joe Williamson-Link,Kate Flowers, Abby Mackey, Abby Ohmstein, Cassie Alpers, Emma Friedberg, Nathan Hall, Aaron Cartwright, Connor Claypool, John Houlihan, and Andrew Moore.

Throughout the Acappella Underground year, any money they receive as payment, donation or contribution is saved and in the spring the group decides where to send the money earned. This year the social service chosen is Mammograms in Action, a charity that gives money to pay for mammograms for people without insurance or any means to pay for the test. A mother of one of the singers in the group is a breast cancer survivor and is a huge supporter of Mammograms in Action.

This holiday season Acappella Underground has been caroling in downtown Glen Ellyn on Saturdays, they sang in the cancer ward for children in a Chicago Hospital, and they are singing at a number of private parties in Glen Ellyn.
