Forrestal Elementary School Receives Academic Improvement Award

Forrestal Elementary School of North Chicago Community Unit School District 187 has received the 2012 Academic Achievement Award from Illinois State Superintendent of Education, Christopher A. Koch, recognizing Forrestal Elementary School as one of the most improved schools in Illinois.

In a letter to Forrestal Principal Dr. Cassandra Brooks, Superintendent Koch wrote, “I commend you and your staff for all the hard work required to help students demonstrate improvement over the last three years.”

The 2012 Academic Improvement Award was given to only 2 percent (81) of Illinois’ 3,873 schools. Forrestal Elementary was the only public school in Lake County to be recognized for this award. Lake County Superintendent of Schools Roycealee J Wood wrote to Dr. Brooks saying, “We are proud to have a school of your caliber in Lake County.”
