School briefly locked down in Lake Villa
A Lake Villa elementary school was on lockdown for about an hour Friday when a suicidal man who lives nearby left his house, authorities said.
Members of the Lake County sheriff’s police were dispatched to the area near Olive Martin School, 24750 W. Dering Lane, at 11:24 a.m. when they received word that the man was on foot in the area, according to a news release.
The school was placed on lockdown and a sheriff’s deputy was stationed nearby as a precaution, authorities said.
The man exited the woods near Grand Avenue and Fairfield Road about 12:30 p.m. and was unarmed and cooperative. Authorities notified the school, where operations resumed as normal, officials said.
The man was transported to the Vista Health Center in Lindenhurst for a mental evaluation.
