ComEd warns against utility scams

ComEd is warning customers to be on alert for scam artists claiming to be a ComEd representative seeking payment. In the last few weeks, there has been an increase in reports of individuals calling customers claiming to be ComEd representatives and telling the customer their service will be disconnected unless payment is made. They tell the customer to buy a prepaid credit card and to call back with the personal identification number. Customers can verify if a ComEd worker is in the area or if a caller is an employee by calling 1-800-EDISON1. Anyone who believes they may be the target of a scam are urged to call the Illinois Attorney General’s office at (800) 386-5438 or visit illinoisattorneygeneral.gov and click on “Protecting Customers.”
