3 families join Maine West hazing lawsuit
Families of three more Maine West athletes who say they were also victims of hazing have joined a lawsuit against Maine Township High School District 207. An attorney representing the victims said all four victims were sexually assaulted as part of the hazing rituals, which dated as far back as 2007. Three dogs die in Naperville fire
A fire in a Naperville apartment building yesterday afternoon took the lives of three dogs. Police responded to the fire at 2:25 p.m. on the 1900 block of Carlsbad. The fire destroyed one bedroom in one unit of the 18-unit building and caused extensive smoke damage throughout the first floor. Full story.
Glen Ellyn man gets four years in baseball bat attack
A Glen Ellyn man was sentenced yesterday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to beating a neighbor with a baseball bat. Joseph A. Martinez, 40, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Full story.
Elgin man gets 25 years for gang-related shootings
A 20-year-old Elgin man was sentenced yesterday to 25 years in prison for two separate gang-related shootings in 2011. Karl F. Bonilla, of the 400 block of Lowrie Court, pleaded guilty to four felony counts of aggravated battery with a firearm. The shootings injured three people — one of them twice — but none of the injuries were life threatening. Full story.
Fire damages Schaumburg auto repair shop
A car being serviced at a Schaumburg automotive shop caught fire yesterday and spread to the building. Schaumburg firefighters responded to the call at 12:35 p.m. on the 800 block of West Wise Road near Wright Boulevard. No one was injured. Full story.
