Find Grinch figures in Naperville businesses to win prizes

December brings some extra fun to Naperville this year because the Grinch will be on the loose.

Naperville is turning into Whoville, the Seussian village that is the setting for Dr. Seuss’s classic book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” The familiar grumpy, green character will be hidden in nearly 60 stores and businesses in the city. It’s all part of Naperville’s “Grow Your Heart Three Sizes” promotion.

“What could be more fun than finding the Grinch, but finding him at local independent businesses in your community,” says Becky Anderson of Anderson’s Bookshop and president of the American Booksellers Association.

“‘Grow Your Heart Three Sizes’ celebrates the uniqueness, fun and strength of the community.”

So where’s the Grinch? Throughout Naperville, of course. He’s turning 55 this year, and to celebrate, the Grinchy guy is visiting different local businesses all through December.

Those who spot him can win prizes, including candy canes, books and more. Grinch figures are showing up in local stores, businesses and other establishments.

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Grow Your Heart Three Sizes” search list with the names of all the businesses, and collect an “I Found the Grinch at ___________” card for each Grinch they spot.

Collecting cards in 16 or more businesses and turning them in at Anderson’s will win a candy cane and an entry for other larger prizes of Dr. Seuss-related books and toys to be drawn at a Grinch party at 2 p.m. Dec. 28 at Anderson’s, 123 W. Jefferson Ave.

The Grinch is the creation of the late Theodore Geisel, the beloved Dr. Seuss, whose books have delighted children for generations. In celebration of the Grinch’s longevity and popularity, IndieBound Naperville has adopted the character this holiday season to promote shopping local at area businesses, including Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville.

This marks the first time the Seuss estate has given permission for this kind of promotional program. There is no charge to participate, and the game lasts until the concluding party on Dec. 28.
