Documentary focuses on sexual assault in our military

The Schaumburg branch of the American Association of University Women, along with the Geneva, St. Charles, Batavia and Elgin AAUW, will sponsor the viewing of the documentary, “The Invisible War” from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Elgin.

The documentary, which focuses on sexual assault in the military, was the winner of the 2012 U.S. Documentary Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and winner of the Best Documentary Award at the Seattle Film Festival. The writer and director Kirby Dick is an Academy and Emmy Award nominated documentary director. His recent films include “Outrage” and “This Film is Not Yet Rated.”

Johanna Buwalda, director of mental health at the VVAW Military Veterans Counseling in Chicago, will be available for a question-and-answer session.
