Ban on fire pits is needed

I agree with Anita DiGangi (Fence Post, Oct. 24) that fire pits should be prohibited.

1. Years ago, burning leaves from trees was outlawed, but now it’s OK to burn the trees? Duh!

2. People burn treated wood, which gives off poisonous fumes. They place the fire pits away from their houses but do not think about the smoke going into their neighbors’ windows. Maybe the pits should be required to have a chimney to exhaust above the rooftops.
