Antioch Elementary teacher accused of bruising student’s arm
An Antioch Elementary School teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave after being accused of grabbing and bruising a student’s arm, officials said Wednesday.
Antioch School District 34 administrators and Antioch police are investigating the student’s complaint, which stemmed from an incident at the school Tuesday afternoon.
The state Department of Children and Family Services is investigating, too.
No charges have been filed, nor has any disciplinary action been taken against the teacher.
The teacher was placed on leave until the investigation is complete as a matter of procedure, Assistant Superintendent Mark Ostap said.
Ostap was not aware of any prior complaints of physical violence involving the teacher.
Antioch Police Chief Craig Somerville confirmed detectives are investigating, but he declined to comment on the specifics of the case.
“We’re talking to everybody involved,” Somerville said.
