Lambs Farm fishing pier now handicapped accessible thanks to Scout

Submitted by Ted Bond Sr.

Thirteen-year-old Maxwell Senger of Gurnee completed his Eagle Scout project on Sept. 29 at Lambs Farm in Libertyville. Inspired by his love of the outdoors and his cousin Rob Cortes (who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy at a young age), Maxwell decided to enhance the fishing pier at Lambs by adding seating and a wheelchair path. In all, five benches were erected.

Maxwell is a member of Troop 627 chartered to the Knights of Columbus at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Gurnee. He secured donations of lumber and conveyor belt material, and worked in conjunction with the staff at Lambs Farm. He was assisted by 14 members of his troop in the effort which will make him the youngest Eagle Scout in the troop’s history. Maxwell is an eighth-grader at Woodland Middle School.
