Trips offered for adults with early memory loss

The Barrington Area Council on Aging is collaborating with CJE-SeniorLife to offer the Northwest Culture Bus. This unique program offers a series of stimulating day trips designed specifically for people experiencing early memory loss.

The Culture Bus, developed and managed by CJE SeniorLife, offers socialization and recreation under the supervision of a trained and experienced professional leader and a group of volunteers. This program provides two pickup and drop off points — Barrington and Deerfield — for the Wednesday outings.

The trips leave from Friend Center (on the Weinberg Community for Senior Living Campus of CJE SeniorLife) in Deerfield and also from the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in Barrington. Morning departure is between 9 and 10 a.m. and return is between 3 and 3:30 p.m. The cost for the program is $75 per trip which includes lunch, entrance and materials fees. A scholarship fund is available to assist with fees for participants who apply and qualify.

There are five remaining trips for the fall season: Nov. 7, 14, 28 and Dec. 5 and 12. They will include trips to the Polish Museum of America in Chicago, Opera in Focus and a performance of “A Christmas Carol” at Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, as well as two creative art sessions. Additional trips are being planned for the winter season that begins in January. Each season includes 10 trips.

New participants must preregister for this program; contact Bonnie at BACOA at (847) 852-3890, or (224) 858-4952.
