Wolves double up on IceHogs
Six players scored for the Chicago Wolves in their 6-3 victory over the host Rockford IceHogs.
Andrew Gordon, Brett Sterling, Jordan Schroeder, Bill Sweatt, Chris Tanev and Andrew Ebbett scored for the Wolves, who improved to 6-2-1.
Wolves goaltender Eddie Lack (5-2-0) stopped 29 shots for his third win over the IceHogs this season.
Rockford goaltender Carter Hutton (3-4-1) allowed 4 goals on 14 shots before being replaced by Alec Richards (9 saves) at 10:08 of the second period.
Gordon opened the scoring at 4:34 of the first period with a quick shot past Hutton, but Rockford (4-4-0-1) responded in kind at 16:28 when Kyle Beach beat Lack on a slap shot through traffic.
Moments later on a Wolves power play, Sterling grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone and worked it through the IceHogs defense and past Hutton for a 2-1 lead.
Just 2:46 into the second frame, Schroeder tallied his third goal of the year off a setup by Tim Miller, who earned his first point of the season. Then it was defenseman Peter Andersson acting as the set-up man for Sweatt’s PP goal.
Trailing 4-1 in the second period, a Brandon Pirri goal cut the lead in half.
The Wolves didn’t allow a third-period comeback, though. Zack Kassian fed Tanev in front to make it 5-2 lead, and Ebbett scored the final Wolves goal of the night at the 17:33 mark to seal the victory.
