State reps can’t protect federal programs

In a recent mail piece, state Rep. Sid Mathias’ opponent claims she will protect Social Security and Medicare.

As a senior, I believe in protecting Medicare and Social Security, but when did those issues become a prerogative of the General Assembly? When did they get that responsibility? I always thought that only the Congress and the President had those powers, and not our state representatives.

That is only one of the charges or statements made by Mathias’ opponent that strikes me as untruthful or misleading.

I am voting for Sid Mathias. At least I know where he stands, and that his positions are relevant to Illinois government.
