Improv Playhouse to present political satire

Submitted by Improv Playhouse

Improv Playhouse thinks it’s time for voters to laugh a little before they go to the polls.

“Herbert Hoover didn’t know how prophetic he was when he said, ‘Blessed are the young, for they shall inherit the national debt,’” said David Stuart, executive producer at I.P.

Stuart has lined up a double “bill” for the evening, including nationally booked President Bill Clinton look-alike, Dale Leigh.

“We have actually booked Dale and a terrific Sarah Palin look-alike for a private party roast and debate for Friday, so we thought we’d hook Dale as well into our comedy night before the election.”

And the lineup appears to be a pretty formidable night of improv comedy for the family-friendly early show and stand-up for the late show. Guest improv comedy team Power Pop Culture Radio will bring an interactive comedy element to the main stage at 7:30 p.m., followed by a hefty lineup of comedians at 9 p.m. hosted by Zanies regular Dobie Maxwell.

In addition to Leigh’s Bill Clinton and Maxwell, fresh from playing at NYC’s The Gotham, will be Lake County’s Luai Hodi, “world’s funniest Lutheran” Karl Newyear of Waukegan and up-and-coming Jeremiah Frazier.

Asked “why a night of political satire?” Stuart replied, “I’m a political junkie who, like so many, takes this election very seriously; however, we need a good chuckle at our own expense sometimes.

“The political campaigns have been so polarizing. It was Harry Truman who said, ‘If you can’t convince them, confuse them.’ I’d say for this night, if you can’t convince them, make ‘em laugh.”

Performance times are 7:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. BYOB. The Improv Playhouse Black Box Main Stage is at 735 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.

Tickets in advance or at the door are $10 for adults; $7 for seniors, students with ID and the military; and $15/$10 for both shows.
