South Barrington officer accused of forgery resigns

A South Barrington police officer charged with forgery, official misconduct and possession of a controlled substance resigned from his job on Wednesday.

Keith Baker, 30, is accused of using a blank prescription pad to obtain 180-pill prescriptions of the painkiller Norco on five separate occasions in May at Walgreens and CVS Pharmacies in Hoffman Estates and South Barrington. Baker had previously worked for the Hoffman Estates Police Department before 2010.

He was immediately placed on administrative leave when South Barrington learned of the charges, according to a statement from South Barrington police.

Baker’s bail was set at $10,000 Wednesday. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison. His next court date is Nov. 14.
