Announcement on School Board Election

ANNOUNCEMENT ON SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

Three seats on the seven-member Board of Education of Lake Villa C.C. School District #41 will be filled at the April 9, 2013 election. Those elected to the Board will serve full four-year terms expiring in April, 2017.

Criteria governing school board candidates is he/she must be

• a citizen of the United States

• a registered voter, 18 years of age

• a resident of the State of Illinois and District #41 for at least one year immediately preceding the election

• a Board member must not be a child sex offender (as defined by Illinois law)

• a Board member must not hold an incompatible office, or hold certain positions of employment with a unit of state of federal government including employment with the District

Petition packets will be available in the District Office for those interested in running for a School Board Member. The local election official's working hours are 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m., Monday through Friday. Prospective candidates may begin circulating nominating petitions for signatures on Tuesday September 25, 2012 and not before. Signatures may be obtained until the petitions are filed.

A school board candidate's petition packet must be filed in the District Office, 131 McKinley Avenue, Lake Villa, Illinois with the Local Election Official no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on Monday December 17, 2012 and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 24, 2012.

Nominating papers may be filed by the candidate in person, by mail or by agent and must consist of the following:

1. Statement of candidacy, which includes a request that the candidate's name be placed on the official ballot, the address of the candidate, the office sought, and a statement that the candidate is qualified for the office and has filed a statement of economic interests as required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.

2. Nominating petitions signed by at least 50 registered voters residing within the District. Petitions must be securely bound together with pages numbered consecutively and each page must carry the notarized signature of the petition circulator.

3. A receipt from the county clerk showing that the candidate has filed the Statement of Economic Interests in 2012.

4. Loyalty Oath

Candidate's names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the local election official's office.
