Fall festival at River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook

The Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s River Trail Nature Center in Northbrook hosts its annual fall festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21.

Situated in a sugar maple basswood forest, along the Des Plaines River, River Trail is one of the best places in the county to enjoy the beauty of fall colors.

Enjoy beekeeping demonstrations, fall color walks, puppet shows, a barn dance hoedown, birds of prey demonstrations, a voyageur encampment, craft corner, pumpkin painting, hayrides and wildflower honey (made by local bees from native woodland wildflowers, tree flowers and native prairie plants). Fall color walks are led by our naturalists, every hour on the half-hour. Other activities include storytelling at 10:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m.; live music from 11-2; a puppet show at 11:15, 1:15 and 3:15; a barn dance at 11:30 and 1:30; and a

birds of prey demonstration at 11:45 and 1:45. The nature center is at 3120 N. Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook.
