Shakespeare, Marlowe works come to St. Charles screen

Submitted by Classic Cinemas

As a part of the “Globe on Screen” season, Charlestowne 18 Theatre, 3740 E. Main St. in St. Charles, will be screening two productions performed last year in London’s Globe Theatre including Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” and the hellish tragedy by one of his contemporaries, Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus.”

Admission is $12.50 per person for each screening.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23 and Monday, Oct. 29, it will be “Much Ado About Nothing” at 7 p.m. Join Shakespeare’s wittiest, most lovable pair of lovers, the always-bickering Beatrice and Benedick, on stage. It is driven along by a romance all the more charming for being unacknowledged and a miracle of comic and dramatic suspense.

On Thursday, Nov. 8, enjoy Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” at 7 p.m. “Doctor Faustus” is considered the greatest tragedy in English before Shakespeare. Marlowe places some of the greatest poetry ever written for the stage and a good deal of anarchic comedy at the service of this mythic tale illustrating mankind’s insatiable desire for knowledge.
