Endorsement: Brin over Dave for Lake County circuit court clerk

Republican Keith Brin, candidate for Lake County clerk of the circuit court, says his goal is to make Lake “the jewel of the court system.” In terms of its less-than-dazzling technology, however, the county has a long way to go. That’s why updating the computer system used by the clerk’s office at the Waukegan courthouse and making it more user friendly has become the key issue in the race to replace outgoing Circuit Court Clerk Sally Coffelt. Democrat Rupam Dave, an attorney, wants to junk the current system. Brin, also an attorney and the chief deputy clerk under Coffelt, wants to improve the system and says some of that much-needed work is already under way, including a move toward remote access. We believe Brin, as the current deputy, has the knowledge, qualifications and enthusiasm to take on the challenges of the job and to do so from day one. We endorse Brin and urge him to push hard to make Lake County that “jewel” he envisions sooner rather than later.
