Crews rescue worker trapped in trench 3 hours

CARMEL, Ind. — Rescue crews have freed a plumber who became trapped in a trench in the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel.

The Indianapolis Star reports that crews rescued the worker shortly after 4 p.m. after he had been trapped for more than three hours. The man was placed on a stretcher and driven off in an ambulance.

Carmel Fire Department spokesman Bruce Knott says the worker is employed by Bedell Plumbing of Greenfield. He was part of a crew installing a new sewer line when a portion of the trench collapsed, trapping the man from his waist down.

The man’s name and the nature of any injuries he suffered were not immediately released.
