Hazardous chemcial removal complete in Wisconsin
SLINGER, Wis. — Contractors have completed the removal of thousands of gallons of hazardous chemicals from an abandoned factory in Washington County.
The emergency cleanup by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began Sept. 12 at the former Niphos Coatings metal plating factory in a residential neighborhood in the village of Slinger.
EPA on-site coordinator Verneta Simon says all the chemicals will be shipped to hazardous waste companies in Illinois for proper disposal. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says about 8,900 gallons of hazardous chemicals stored in barrels, drums and vats were found inside the factory, which closed in March 2010.
