Library Welcomes New Director

The Prospect Heights Public Library is happy to announce Alexander C. Todd as their new Executive Director. Many of you already know Alex. He has served as our Head of Adult Services for the past twelve years. Before that, he worked at the Sycamore Public Library and the Fountaindale Public Library District in Bolingbrook.

During his time at Prospect Heights, Alex began our popular series of computer classes and expanded our discussion groups (join one today!). Alex and his staff are responsible for our record breaking Summer and Winter reading programs and creatively using our Library volunteers in useful and valuable projects throughout the Library. Alex is well respected throughout the Library community. He has spoken at national and statewide library conferences and serves on several local and state library committees and boards, including the Illinois Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee.

Away from libraries, Alex enjoys live music—both listening and playing. He’s been taking classes periodically at the Old Town School of Folk Music and is currently “not terrible” on the mandolin and acoustic guitar. He also serves on the board of directors for his co-op and is currently completing a three year term as board president.

As clichéd as it sounds, Alex really does love reading (and listening to) books. His favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, David Halberstam, and Shel Silverstein. Some of his favorite titles are Shaara’s The Killer Angels, Card’s Ender’s Game, Cornwell’s Sharpe series, and whatever the Prospect Heights Book Club is reading this month! As we welcome Alex to his new position in our Library family, we look forward to a long and successful tenure as Executive Director.
