Southwestern Ill. highway worker killed by truck

MEADOWBROOK — The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a 62-year-old highway worker who was found underneath a dump truck.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that Dennis Goebel died Wednesday when he was accidentally backed over by a Fort Russell Township truck. Nobody saw the accident, but his co-workers found him under the truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy is planned.

Goebel was working on a township highway department crew that was repairing culverts in the community of Meadowbrook, about 20 miles northeast of St. Louis.
