Time to stop blaming teachers
Time to stop blaming teachers
Schools are not failing in Chicago or anywhere else in this country. However, our education system is flawed and needs to be overhauled.
1. Adopt year-around school. Students do not need two months off in the summer.
2. Institute a testing process that takes into account math, literacy, science, and social studies/history.
Acknowledge that not every child is going to meet unrealistic expectations. Believe it or not, there are barriers that prevent or slow the learning process (socio-economic status, language, disabilities). However, every child does have the ability to show growth in his/her learning.
It is time that we stop blaming teachers for the problems in our schools, but address the real issues that prevent/hinder our children’s’ learning opportunities.
