Elmhurst officer honored for DUI work

Elmhurst police officer Matthew McCollum was honored Sept. 22 by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for his efforts to reduce alcohol abuse in the community.

Officials said he made 73 drunken-driving arrests in 2011, more than any other Elmhurst officer.

McCollum also is a police academy instructor who trains recruits to administer field sobriety tests, and works with youths through DARE, a drug and alcohol awareness program.

“Officer McCollum is a firm believer that education is a crucial component in stopping underage drinking. We are very proud to have him as a member of our team,” Elmhurst Chief James Kveton said in a news release.
