Grayslake N. Buckels down in 9th PK round
Lucas Buckels knocked in the winning goal in the ninth round of penalty kicks, as Grayslake North’s boys soccer team outlasted visiting Woodstock 4-3 in a Fox Valley Conference Fox Division thriller Tuesday night.
Before Buckels’ PK, Knights keeper Dean Jones came up with a big save.
Grayslake North (5-12, 2-1) failed to protect a 3-1 lead, as Woodstock scored twice in the final 20 minutes to send the match into overtime.
Baruk Perez-Vera, Fernando Sanchez and Arnaud Laroche-Bataille scored in regulation for Grayslake North. Gavin Amburn, Zach Kottmer and Chris Zamora had assists for the Knights.
“Once we built the lead of 3-1, we completely stepped backward and allowed Woodstock too much space to operate and attack,” Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “Giving that space cost us the win in regulation.”
Grayslake Central 2, Woodstock North 1 (OT): Jacob Swearingen scored early in the first overtime, as the host Rams won their third straight match in OT.
It was the fourth win in a row overall for Grayslake Central, which improved to 7-7 and 3-0 in the Fox Valley Fox Division.
The Rams’ Joey Mudd scored his seventh goal of the season in regulation, while Steven Anderson made 4 saves in net. Mudd and Jonny Madrid had assists for Grayslake Central.
