No one injured in Arlington Heights house fire

No one was injured during a fire that filled an Arlington Heights home with smoke late Sunday afternoon.

The family who lives in the two-story home in the 700 block of North Highland Avenue noticed the house was filling with smoke and safely left before calling 911 at about 4:45 p.m., officials said.

When firefighters arrived at the home, all three floors were filled with smoke and it took firefighters about 15 minutes to find the blaze, said Arlington Heights Fire Cmdr. Randy Borre.

The fire was in the unfinished basement of the home, and was under control by about 5:30 p.m., he said.

Although the fire was contained to the basement, the home was deemed uninhabitable because of the extent of the smoke damage throughout.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday night and a damage estimate was not available.

Arlington Heights firefighters were assisted by crews from Rolling Meadows, Palatine, Buffalo Grove and Prospect Heights.
