Bright Hope looking for volunteers

Families and individuals looking for a way to help people in extreme poverty are invited to attend an informational meeting at Bright Hope, 2060 Stonington Ave., Hoffman Estates, at 3 to 4 p.m. or 6 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29.

Attendees will learn about JELLY, a program for changing lives in a poor village in Haiti. JELLY stands for Jesus, Education, Loans, Love and You.

Participants in the two-year JELLY program will build a church-school out of shipping containers in Hoffman Estates. They will fundraise to dig a well for clean water, fund a microloan program and train teachers and pastors in the village. Through special Skype Nights, families will meet the people, pastors and teachers in the Haitian village.

Everything about the program is “kid-friendly,” said Bright Hope President C.H. Dyer, who encourages families to participate together.

“You will literally be making a connection with the people you are serving,” Dyer said. “It will be an experience unlike any other. Most importantly, you will become the hands and feet of Christ in a community that so desperately needs what He freely offers. With your partnership, we will transform a child, a family, a village, a world.”
