Palatine Rural FPD holds successful open house
The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District held its annual Open House Saturday, Sept. 8, which proved to be successful.
“This year we focused on activities for young children,” stated Assistant Chief Jeff Dill. “Home Depot provided kits for children to build and paint, Union Pacific Railroad and Northern Illinois Gas provided railroad safety and gas leak emergency information.”
Both St. Alexis and Northwest Community Medical Groups were also present to provide medical emergency and public health information.
The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District also had a several extinguisher displays to teach not only the children, but adults, on the proper procedures for extinguishing a fire.
Palatine Rural Fire Protection District also held a ceremonial “cutting of the ribbon” as the fire district unveiled a new sign that identifies the fire station as Palatine Rural Fire Protection District Station 36.
Several dignitaries were in attendance, including Mayor Jack Tatooles of Inverness, Township President Linda Fleming, and Palatine Rural Board of Trustee members Glen Grosch and William Murray.
The highlight of the open house, however, was the live burn display provided by the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board. Their display, titled “Side by Side,” depicts the difference of a fire in a room without a sprinkler system and one with a sprinkler system.
All in attendance were amazed at the ability of the sprinkler system to control the fire immediately when activated.
