How do you ensure the county continues on that path and that reserves aren?t depleted? Are there specific budget areas that need more attention?I continue to educate new board members of the importance of keeping at least a 6 month reserve. In every area continue to look for new efficiencies to keep the tax levy flat.Does the McHenry County Board have a good transportation improvement plan? Please be specific and suggest whether you think anything is missing or should be scrapped.Yes we do. We are in the middle of constructing the new 2040 Transportation Plan with many opportunities for public input. If the community strongly weighs in on a project that they want done differently (i.e. Flemig Road) or not at all, that should have strong bearing on the final decision.Does the county need to address its ethics policies? Why or why not? If so, how?Our ethics policy should be reviewed periodically. Right now, I believe we have an excellent one that is more restrictive than the State of Illinois' policy.Assess McHenry County?s efforts thus far in terms of groundwater preservation and protection. What needs to be done now and in the future? We have done a good job with creatig the position of Groundwater Resource Director. The County has implemented throughout the county testing wells to determine quality and quantity of our groundwater. We are now implementig educational items and opportunities to learn about water conservation methods and their importance. We write a regular column for the paper on new water protection and conservation tips. We have very strong policies and action steps to protect our groundwater in our 2030 Land Use Plan. These items need to continue and to continue implementing all of the polcies in the Land Use Plan.Assess how the county health department approached the whooping cough outbreak. What should have been done differently?I think the health department did an excellent job of getting the word out, working with schools and prevention and treatment guidelines with the public through the newspaper and other means.
