Elk Grove Village man wins $1 million in lottery

Elk Grove Village resident Andres Salgado has been walking around town for six weeks with $1 million in his wallet. Salgado won $1 million in the July 25 Powerball drawing and only recently took the ticket out of his wallet to check it.

“For some reason, I didn’t check my ticket right away, then I checked and I couldn’t believe I won,” he said after checking his ticket at Golf Mobil Mart, 1 West Golf Road in Hoffman Estates.

Salgado, who plays Powerball once a week, purchased his winning $2 Quick Pick ticket at the same store and matched all five numbers — 03, 14, 35, 38, 46. His largest lottery win before this was $20.

Salgado, who is married with two sons, 16 and 21 years old, plans to use some of the winnings for their college education. He also plans to pay off his house and invest. “This money is a blessing,” he said.
