Chili cook-off to benefit Larkin Center

Local businesses partner together to serve residents in need. The Larkin Center and Landin Chiropractic Care have joined forces again to host an event.

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, they will host the annual chili cook-off from 6 to 7:30 p.m. They invite everyone to come out to compete or just eat. Locals from around the area will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite chili.

The cost of the event is free, but attendees may make a donation. All proceeds will benefit Elgin’s Larkin Center. The event will be held at Landin Chiropractic Care, 1990 Larkin Ave. in Elgin.

The Larkin Center is celebrating 116 continuous years of service this year. Based in Elgin, this full-service treatment center provides the following:

타 Youth Residential for youth up to age 18 experiencing emotional and/or behavioral challenges. While the program serves youth across Northern Illinois, referrals are accepted from any geographic region.

타 Adult for the chronic mentally ill seeking enhanced independent living skills.

타 State-of-the-art, therapeutic day school for up to 100 students in first to 12th grade at risk of dropping out of school. The facility serves students from more than 20 school districts in Northern Illinois.

타 Outpatient family counseling for children, teens and their families struggling with mental illness or behavioral issues.

The agency’s mission is, “Teaching Skills — Changing Lives.” The Larkin Center serves more than 500 people every year by creating an environment which is structured, protective, and therapeutic. The center also provides services to enhance a person’s intellectual, emotional, vocation, physical, and spiritual capabilities. Thanks to the thoroughness and integrity of its treatment programs, the Council on Accreditation gave high marks to the Larkin Center in 2009.
